Waste Management: A Step Towards Sustainable Tourism

Modern tourism must prioritize the environment. “Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility” is no longer just about public image; it is the new standard of business. Operators who demonstrate genuine care will earn public trust and create a sustainable competitive advantage.
Waste management is at the heart of this effort. Whether it is a hotel, restaurant, or tour operator, practices such as waste segregation, reducing plastic use, recycling, and selecting eco-friendly partners all help minimize environmental impact and reflect a business’s true responsibility.
Effective waste management is not a burden but a “business opportunity.” It helps reduce operational costs, adds value, and enhances the image of tourist destinations. Keeping these areas clean and impressive generates positive word-of-mouth and drives Thai tourism toward true sustainability.
Recently, a luxury 5-star hotel in Phuket purchased one unit of the ACI-120 Series 4 incinerator from Wonder Will to manage the hotel’s internal waste. This initiative serves as an excellent example of a business operator willing to invest in order to alleviate the burden on local authorities. As a world-class tourist destination, Phuket is currently facing a significant challenge with municipal waste overflow.
If other operators facing tourism-related waste challenges cooperate in a similar manner, it will not only ease the government’s workload but also directly benefit the local nature and environment, ultimately sustaining the tourism industry of Phuket as a whole.
